Kim Spencer, Chairman
Kim is a producer of more than 70 documentaries and television news specials. He was co-founder of Internews Network, an NGO that now supports independent media in 100 countries, He was coordinating producer at the ABC News weekly magazine show Prime Time Live. In 1999, Kim was co-founder and president of Link TV, the national satellite channel, where he helped create the Peabody Award-winning daily broadcast Mosaic: World News from the Middle East, the documentary series Bridge to Iran, the digital media platform ViewChange and the weekly series Earth Focus, now the longest-running environmental program on American television. Kim lives in Woodacre, CA

Patrice O'Neal, Secretary
Patrice is an award-winning documentary producer and director who launched Not In Our Town, a movement to stop hate, address bullying, and build safe, inclusive communities for all. Since 1995, Not In Our Town has become a nationwide organization whose projects range from the production of multiple public television documentaries to training police departments across the US to effectively deal with hate crimes. Recognized as a pioneer in impact media producing, she served as a Sundance Media Advisor at the Skoll World Forum. Her most recent film is Repairing the World: Stories from the Tree of Life. Patrice lives in Oakland, CA.

Al McFarlane, Treasurer
Al is founder, CEO and Editor of Insight News, a community newspaper that has served Minneapolis’ African-American North-side since 1976. He is President of the Black Publishers Coalition and is a featured commentator on Minneapolis radio station KMOJ. McFarlane and Insight News supported the creation of other newspapers serving communities of color in the region and formed the Minnesota Minority Media Coalition. In 1996, Insight News became the first African American-owned publication in Minnesota to establish a presence on the Internet. Al lives in Minneapolis, MN

Heather Hurford
Heather began her work-life as an office manager at Internews Network, while she earned a B.A. in linguistics at UC Berkeley. She went on to manage IT, production and broadcast operations at Link TV, the national satellite television channel. After 2011, Heather was a Software Engineering Project Manager at Apple, and the Lead Producer at the Steve Jobs Theater; a Producer and Program Manager at Google; and a live events producer at LinkedIn. Most recently she was the Senior Technical Program Manager at SoundHound Inc. Heather served three terms as Board Chair at KMVT Silicon Valley Community Media. She lives in Boulder, CO

Steve Newman
Steve is the editor in chief of the online and syndicated newspaper feature Earthweek. A meteorologist with a career in media and private industry that spans more than three decades, Steve established Earth Environment Service in 1980, a weather consulting company that provided forecasts and data to agricultural, insurance and media interests worldwide. He has been a frequent contributor for ABC’s Good Morning America and Discovery.com. Steve is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist and is a fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society. He currently lives in Barcelona, Spain.

Evelyn Messinger, President Emeritus
Evelyn is a television news producer and pioneer of online citizen engagement. In 1983 she was cofounder of Internews Network, and was a producer of “Spacebridges” that connected Soviets and Americans. Evelyn was the director of the Soros Foundation’s electronic media program. She founded Internews Interactive in 1998 and served as President for 25 years, creating the Citizens Channel and Digital Citizen projects, the News Ambassadors radio series and ThisPlanet.tv. In the 2000's, she produced the international news feature Global Pulse for Link TV, and created the news literacy website Know the News. Evelyn lives in San Francisco.
